Inspiring The World, One Message at A Time

In August, The Universe Knows, a Plainvew-based producer of inspirational apparel and gifts, celebrated its tenth anniversary. Founder Ron Dinehart, the company’s chief executive messenger who lives in Glen Cove, first launched the company by selling T-shirts at street fairs. A lot has changed since. The company now has a showroom, two employees and an array of specialty gift stores and destination spas as clients.

About those inspirational messages: Dinehart says he now has a 10-year compilation of messages. And inspirational messages can come from anywhere. While driving recently, he thought up two – “courage always wins.” And “do something awesome.” The messages are printed in all-lower case letters, which Dinehart says are “less intrusive, more introspective.” The messages, according to the company’s website, prompt others to live their dreams.

On moving beyond street fairs: A customer recommended that Dinehart sell his wares at spa shows for the spa industry. The rest was history. The company now sells merchandise at spas and specialty gift stores from Cape May, NJ, to  Sedona, AZ. The items do well there, Dinehart says, because at these kinds of locations people focus on matters that are most important to them.

How business has changed: The company now has two employees, who work nearly full-time, and in October, it opened its showroom at 50 Werman Court in Plainview.

The Biggest Challenge: “Getting the word that there is a successful Long Island company here,” Dinehart said, adding “and getting people into the showroom.”

What he’s most proud of: “Inspiring people,” Dinehart said. “So many people love our product. We are changing the world. To us, it’s a good feeling.”
